Netatmo has been developing some really intriguing home lifestyle products over the last few years including a weather station and thermostat. Back at CES 2015, they won several awards (Home Appliances, Smart Home, Digital Imaging and Tech for a Better World) for their latest release, the Netatmo Welcome and they’ve announced it is now available in Canada.

The Netatmo Welcome is a very interesting device – the cylinder shaped aluminum shelled device is a minimalists dream. Inside, the Welcome has a camera that shoots in 1080p video on a 4MP video sensor with a 130-degree fieldd of view and night vision technology.. It includes an 8GB MicroSD card, but can be upgraded to 32GB. With a WiFI connection (or hardwired via Ethernet) the camera can be viewed remotely from your smartphone.

Here’s where it gets interesting – the Netatmo Welcome features face recognition technology that will tell you exactly who is at home. Now, if you’re worried about privacy, fear not as the Netatmo Welcome only records people it doesn’t recognize (you just need to create set approved faces), additionally all the data and recordings are your own. No one, not even Netatmo get access to the video as it is all stored privately and locally on the MicroSD card.

The Netatmo Welcome face recognition home security camera is now available in Canada for $220.
