Techmas Day 3 features the Alcatel OneTouch Idol 3, you can purchase it through TELUS.
Alcatel OneTouch has been putting out a regular series of inexpensive phones for a number of years now under the name Pop, Fierce, Pixi, Flash and Idol. Their latest flagship phone, the Alcatel OneTouch Idol 3, came out back during the summer by announcing a partnership with Toronto FC. The phone has been highly reviewed by media in the States and Canada, particularly highlighting its speakers, screen and naturally, the price. The phone generally comes free on a plan, and at about $360 Canadian contract free.
The screen is one the brightest on the market, beating out a lot of other brands including Apple’s iPhone 6 Plus by a significant margin. At 5.5″, the screen is in full HD at 1920 x 1080p (or 401ppi) while the entire body is a little larger at 6 inches (153mm) by 3 inches (75mm) and just 0.3 inches thick (7.4mm) and weighs 0.31 pounds (142g). One of the most awesome additions on the Alcatel OneTouch Idol 3 is the inclusion of stereo JBL speakers on both the bottom and top of the device. These speakers are loud (about 78 dB) and deliver clear audio that may allow you to leave your Bluetooth speaker at home. The camera shoots 13MP, and takes rather good shots.
Inside, the Alcatel OneTouch Idol 3 runs on Android 5.0, by a 64-bit octa-core processor 1.7 GHz Snapdragon 615, and 2GB of RAM. The phone comes with 16GB of flash memory, and can be expanded up to 128GB through MicroSD. The battery on the device is 2910 mAh, which is rated to last about 8.5 hours, while a full charge takes about 3 hours, which is a little slow compared to others on the market. Overall, for a phone that can be had unlocked for under $400, you’re getting a very solid phone at a very good price.
The Alcatel OneTouch Idol 3 costs about $360 contract free through TELUS or $0 on a 2-year plan.
