With exception of this season of Orange is the New Black, Netflix has a pretty great track record of producing original content, and from the trailer and story alone Netflix’s Narcos is going to be one of their best yet. The series, which premieres on August 28th is a true (or mostly true) telling of the battle between the US government and the rise of the Medellin Cartel and Pablo Escobar. The story begins in the 1970s, when the cocaine drug trade began to take off – usually with small single person operations, but all that changed with Pablo Escobar and the Medellin Cartel who at the height of their operations were bringing in $400 million worldwide every single week.
Pablo Escobar was known to be completely ruthless and thanks to the Netflix platform, we can certainly expect all the violence, gore and same ruthlessness translated to the screen. At least, that’s what we hope if Netflix’s Narcos wants to be a major hit. Narcos will feature 10 episode seasons, and depending on how fast or slow they tell the story should probably get at least 3 seasons – if it’s the hit we anticipate it will be.
Needless to say we’re excited! Will you be watching?
